Catering deposits and online ordering for small caterers
Updated 2026-10-15. Not legal advice.
Packages instead of back-and-forth
Most small catering jobs start with the same questions: what is in each package, how many people it feeds, and what the date is. A menu with clear tray packages answers those before the customer messages you.
Collecting a deposit
In the event catering demo, each package is listed at its deposit price, with a note that the balance is due later. The customer pays that deposit by card at checkout, and it goes to your Stripe account. You collect the balance the way you already do.
KitchenCheckout does not have a separate deposit-and-balance billing system. Listing the deposit as the menu price is how the demo handles it.
Event dates and lead time
Set a long lead time and a wide order-ahead window, up to 90 days, so customers can book events weeks out and cannot book for tomorrow.
You are responsible for permits, labels, and sales tax where you cater. KitchenCheckout does not issue permits.
